How to Apply

Apply using the Common Application. Learn more below about how to apply as a first-year, transfer or international applicant.

Fee: $55 (Fee waivers are available for first-year students who qualify).

    General Requirements

    Recommendations

    Letters of recommendation are optional.

    Standardized Test Scores

    We are a test-optional school. You may submit standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) or utilize the Temple Option.

    Portfolio

    Admission to the BA in Film and Media Arts is by academic review. No portfolio is required. If you’d like to submit links to work, please feel free to email to  .

    Applying for Upper-Level BA Concentrations or the BFA Programs

    Once accepted and enrolled, students initially declare one of the following majors.

    • Film and Media Arts
    • Film and Media Arts with Screen Studies concentration

    Upon the completion of 60 credits, usually in the spring of the sophomore year, students may apply for one of the following.

    • Concentration in Post-Production, Cinematography or Producing 
    • BFA in Screenwriting, Directing or Media Arts

    To do so, the student must petition the department to request admission into one of the upper-level concentrations/BFA programs.  For more details on this process, please see the BA and BFA requirements for Film and Media Arts students in the section below.

    Program Requirements for BA/BFA

    Program Requirements

    To apply for admission into one of the three upper-level Bachelor of Arts concentrations in Cinematography, Producing or Post-Production, or BFA in Screenwriting, Directing or Media Arts, students must meet the following requirements.

    • Complete 60 credits of coursework.
    • Earn a GPA of 3.0 or more in five foundational and intermediate courses.

    If your GPA is less than 3.0, you can

    1. petition the relevant department for admission into your desired concentration, or
    2. remain in the initial Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Arts program to earn the degree with a concentration in Screen Studies or without a concentration.

    Submit the BA Program Application Form or the BFA Program Application Form to the relevant department.
